Committees/Work Groups
Highland Park Baptist Church has a place for everyone to contribute their time and talents to our church community.

Whatever your interests or abilities, we welcome you to participate in our work groups and committees, including:

  • Baptism
  • Building and Grounds
    Responsible for all Church properties, their equipment, fixtures and furnishings; and arranges for maintenance that will provide attractive, serviceable, safe and structurally sound buildings, grounds and vehicles.
  • Children and Youth
    In cooperation with the appropriate member of the ministerial staff, the committee will plan and direct a ministry to children from kindergarten through fifth grade, including Vacation Bible School. Required to understand and support the Church's Child and Youth Protection Policy.
  • Circle of Touch
  • College and Young Adult
    Directs the attention of the Church toward areas of concern in the lives of college students and young adults. Plans, directs and sponsors programs and activities that address these concerns.
  • Computer Systems
  • Day School
    Acts as the Highland Park Baptist Church School Board. They are responsible for operation of the School and serve as liaison between the School and the Church.
  • Education
    Works with the leadership of the church to plan and coordinate a variety of educational programs and activities during the year. Supports the adult Sunday School classes. Facilitates communication between church staff and committees and the church congregation regarding programs and activities.
  • Family Life
    Directs the attention of the Church toward areas of concern in the lives of families, including recreation. Plans, directs and sponsors programs and activities that address these concerns.
  • Finance
    Supervises and directs all financial business of the Church. Prepares and presents a budget to the Church. Arranges for an internal audit at the end of each fiscal year.

  • Long Range Planning
  • Missions
    Establish and monitor the various mission causes of the church. Coordinate and help facilitate the mission activities of the church such as the Interfaith Hospitality Network for the homeless and the River Ministry, and provide special benevolence offerings during the year to groups like Caritas, the Baptist Community Center, and the World Hunger offering.
  • Music
    Assists the appropriate member of the staff in developing a program of music ministry for the Church. Oversees maintenance of all musical instruments.
  • Nominating
    Enlists and nominates individuals for membership of regular committees and work groups, places of leadership and instruction in the Sunday School, and other Church organizations.
  • Outreach & Public Relations
    Develops and implements a workable plan to coordinate and oversee our outreach efforts, including special programs, media campaigns and advertising.
  • Personnel
    In consultation with other committees, this committee defines the duties and activities of all non-ministerial employees. Reviews and maintains a job description and job evaluation on each ministerial and non-ministerial employee (excluding Day School personnel). They are responsible for hiring and dismissing all non-ministerial staff except nursery workers and Day School personnel. They are responsible for developing and administering a book of personnel policies.
  • Pre-Elementary
    In cooperation with the appropriate member of the ministerial staff, the committee will plan and direct a ministry to children from birth through 4 years of age (up to kindergarten), including the hiring and dismissing of nursery personnel and maintaining an attractive, safe, functional, educational and secure environment for these children. Required to understand and support the Church's Child and Youth Protection Policy.
  • Sanctuary
  • Senior Adult (55+)
    Leads the Church in a program of ministry to senior adults, both within and outside the congregation. Works as liaison between the Church, the Triple L ministry, and any other ministry to senior adults in which the Church becomes involved.
  • Stewardship
    Responsible for encouraging faithful giving to support the budget adopted by the church. Promotes stewardship throughout the church body.

  • Youth
    With the youth ministerial staff, plans activities for middle school and high school kids to deepen friendships, encourage hands-on service to others, and promote spirituality. Activities include Youth Camp, mission trips, Youth Auction, Java for Jesus, lock-ins, Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening fellowship, retreats, holiday parties, lake days, service projects and fund raisers.
